Run/Walk for Haiti

On saturday March 6th 2010 I walked at Camas High School in Camas Washington with a few friends for an Orphanage in Haiti. It was one of the few buildings not damaged in the quake and they have a heavy load of helping the community with clean water and meals. The orphanage is the Ebenezer Glen Orphanage two of Matthews classmates were adopted out of that orphanage 12 years age.

Matthew 12 years old and his friend Julian were given a team project of organizing an event. They tho

Walt

I just heard on the local new out of Portland Oregon that they found Walt. They also said his family is now planning for his memorial. I am so sorry for your loss of a friend and mentor BK. I knew you would find him and just know his great works and love for his fellow human being will live on forever in your heart and the hearts of his family. He was a local man here in Washougal and our community has lost a very giving individual. Keep the faith brother

I'll see you there. It will be a lot of fun, and hopefully, we'll get the focus back on Kipp and getting (maybe) some talk going again about his attack. Cinco de Mayo is a great day for fun anyway. I think I;ll check with Marin and see if she and Paula are going to come out. Too bad Teri is so far away. Hopefully Lori can come with. Talk soon.

KD,

What ya' doin' on Cinco de Mayo? Josh (Redwood Son) is doing a huge Tribute to his drummer, Kipp Crawford, who was attacked and killed on Nov. 3.while cycling home. He's releasing the EP and it should be a lot of fun. Great Room. At The Buffalo Gap on Macadam, in Portland. 8:30. Can you make it? Sure hope so.

Maj. Zippo was captured by the enemy that day and held PoW in the jungle camps.

If you want to read his After Action Report on that battle - go here:

http://www.soft-vision.com/ranger (US Army Ranger Don Valentine just passed away.) Zippo's info can be
located by clicking on the link for " Maj. Smith"

that was one of the kewlest as it told a story that honored those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms, and wounded warriors, some who pay for the rest of their lives, through the eyes of Niles.

Love to see them get together and do another about a friend of mine and the men he walked with. Maj. Mark Smith, endearingly known as Major Zippo.

Here's Zippo's DSC ( next highest award to the MOH) citation:

For extraordinary heroism during the period 5 April 1972 to 7 April 1972 while serving as the Senior Battalion Liaison Officer to the 9th Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division, Army of the Republic of Vietnam. On 5 April 1972, North Vietnamese and Viet Cong forces launched a major offensive with the objective of capturing Binh Long Province in Military Region Three. The 5th Viet Cong Division was targeted against Loc Ninh the capital of Loc Ninh District in northern Binh Long Province. The 5th Viet Cong Division launched a massive coordinated ground attack against Loc Ninh beginning early in the morning of 5 April 1972. The attack was supported by artillery and tanks. Captain smith skillfully directed tactical airstrikes and helicopter gunships in support of the 9th Infantry Regiment and other South Vietnamese forces in the area. To inflict the maximum casualties on the enemy and to bring the fires as close as possible to the friendly forces, he left the safety of his bunker and moved throughout the area seeking strategic vantage points from which he directed friendly fire. Time and time again he directed the fighters, bombers, gunships, and artillery fire on top of his own position to drive off the attacking enemy. The combination of Captain Smith’s courage and professional skills coupled with all available firepower kept the numerically enemy at bay for more than two days. Captain Smith’s extraordinary heroism was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Army and reflected great credit upon himself and the military service.

Thank you, on behalf of my boys, for the great compliment. I hope you enjoy their CD's. Josh is back in the studio hard at work on what he calls his "first" real CD. It should be out this summer. Mark your calendar for 5/5 at The Buffalo Gap for his Single Release- Long Fall. It will be an amazing show, and it too is Free.
Yes, we did meet. Now I know for sure.
Please, stay in touch.
